Boeing's Starliner spacecraft successfully docked with the International Space Station, marking a significant milestone in its journey to become certified for regular astronaut missions. This mission, carrying astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, is a crucial test flight for Starliner, which has faced delays and technical challenges.
Despite encountering three helium leaks and a failure of five maneuvering thrusters, the crew managed to dock with the ISS after troubleshooting the issues. The mission is expected to last 10 days, with the astronauts spending eight days on the ISS before returning to Earth. This successful docking puts Boeing in a position to compete with SpaceX, currently the sole provider of astronaut transportation services for NASA.
